EV Charging

EV  Charging

Environmental concerns and high oil fuel costs mean millions of us are considering an electric vehicle. Of course, if you’re getting an electric vehicle (EV), you’ll need somewhere to charge it. We install a range of electric car chargers suitable for your home or business.

Is my Home Suitable?

There are a few things to consider before you install an EV charging point, to have a home charge point installed you need to have:

  • A driveway or allocated off-street parking.
  • Wi-Fi connection at your property or a SIM router with a 3G or 4G SIM.
  • Landlords permission (if you’re renting).

How Much Does a Charger Cost?

Our Chargers start at £950 for a standard installation.

What’s Included?

Standard installations include:

  • Fitting your home charger onto a suitable permanent structure.
  • Up to 15 metres of cable, clipped to an external wall between your electricity supply/main distribution board and EV charger.
  • Drilling through a wall up to 50cm thick and clipping a cable above ground up to 6 ft high.
  • An electrical certificate to show your installation meets UK standards.

What happens if my installation is non-standard?

Non-standard charger installations may incur an additional cost. After your remote survey we’ll better understand your requirements and produce a no-obligation quote for any additional works.

We’ll carry out a free survey of your property to establish the best option – please Contact Us us to find out more.

Are There any Grants Available?

Really Renewable are authorised by the UK government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles to install EV charge points and infrastructure.

Grant funding may be available towards the cost of installing a charging point in your rental property or at work and we will take care of the application process for you. Please Contact Us to find out if you are eligible.

Are There Different Types of EV Charging Point?

There are three main types of EV charging point: rapid, fast and slow. They pretty much do exactly what they say on the tin.The type of charger we’ll recommend depends on the number of vehicles you wish to charge, how fast you want to charge and the size of your electricity supply. Chargers for domestic properties typically range from 3.4 KW to 22KW, providing a charging time between 3 to 24 hours. Chargers for commercial use go up to 350 KW and can provide a full charge in as little as 20 minutes

Rapid or superchargers are mainly found at motorway services and other public locations where super-fast charging is necessary during a journey. A typical example is a Tesla SuperCharger, which takes just 20  minutes to charge the vehicle up to 80%.

Fast chargers are the standard for home and workplace charging and enable people to charge their vehicles within a few hours, depending on the vehicle and rating of the charging point. The most common fast charger we install is rated at 7kW, which will charge most vehicles from 0-100% within 6-12 hours.

We also have intelligent chargers that divert power from your solar panels to charge your vehicle instead of using grid electricity. This means that you can drive your car using free electricity, while there is an override function if you need to charge your car faster with energy from the grid.

We have a wide range of EV charging points for your home or business and specialise in installing the following brands:

Hypervolt
Simpson & Partners

Zappi
Andersen

Ohme
Indra

Tesla
Podpoint
Zaptec
Easee
EO
EVO EV

What Sort of Plugs/Connectors do I Need?

The type of plug you need is determined by the type of vehicle you have. There are two main kinds of plug: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 are the most common as they are standard all new vehicles. Both types can charge up to 32A, but the Type 2 plug enables faster charging if you have a three-phase installation.

There are 2 configurations: Universal and Tethered. Universal chargers don’t have a cable, so are compatible with most plug types- ideal when you have cars with different plug types. Tethered have a permanently attached charging cable, so it’s always ready to use.
